The Buenos Aires Project

In October of 2003, we held a series of medical seminars in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While visiting the barrios (suburbs) surrounding the city, we toured a facility set up to serve hot lunches to the school children of the district. Because of the poverty of the barrios, the schools cannot provide lunches for the students and many do not have a meal in their home. As visitors, we could not help but be impressed with the need for this type of program and for the heroic efforts of the local volunteers who were providing this service. The conditions of the facilities with which the volunteers were working also made an impression.

After some discussion among the board members of WHS, we agreed to sponsor the building of a proper facility - one that would provide a safe and clean place not only for the lunch program, but would also offer after-school programs for the children, and evening programs for adults.

Building Projects in Africa

To help the school children in Chome, Tanzania, East Africa:

Plans are being drawn up to build a 6800-square-foot 2-story building (40' x 85') to house a cafeteria, restrooms, and a library. The cost of this building will be $60,000.00 That works out to be $9.00 per square foot - what a BARGAIN compared to building in the United States at the cost of $175.00-$190.00 per square foot. We have received donated funds to purchase the land, which were available for only $30.00 an acre. Please designate Building in Chome on your donation.

Purchase and installation of water pump and water lines to irrigate garden areas at the school in Chome to help the school be self-supporting, cost $3,500.00. Please designate Water Pump in Chome on your donation.
 

To help the school children in Kenya, East Africa:

Dig well and install pump to provide drinking water for the school children cost $5,000.00. Please designate Water Well in Kenya on your donation.
